This time last week we might have been chillaxin’, enjoying an extra day off work, we might have been clearing up after the festive break, we might have been shopping in the sales?
We might have started a New Year’s Resolution – desperate for normal digestion, to feel better about ourselves, for our clothes to fit properly without marking us!!
So what about this week, where are you with your resolve? Maybe you avoided the ‘New Year, New Me’ rush, irritated by the prolific, blatant commercialism and unashamed ‘shmoosing’ for your hard earned £££’s yet still feel that it is time to make a change for the better?
There are many strategies we can adopt to successfully achieve our goals, yet most go for a vague and frankly non-committed attempt at what they want to achieve in the new year, believing that last time they failed and probably will do so again – and of course if they stick with their lack of (or non-effective) strategy they will be right. If you want something different you have to do something different!
Here is something for you to consider adopting!
What ever your goal is Be SMARTS
S = specific, exactly what is it that you want to achieve, stated positively ie I will, want, can do, can have etc.?
M = how will you measure your success, weight, time, distance, lbs or £’s etc. Define your target clearly.
A = is it achiveable given the resources, time and commitment you are prepared to give to it?
R = Is it results orientated as opposed to activity focused ie. so rather than ‘I will go to the gym’ state ‘I will achieve a fitness gain such as X’
or a ‘fat loss of Y%’
or ‘reduce my resting heart rate, blood pressure, choleterol levels, bodyfat %, to Z’
gain a qualification, get a promotion, pay rise, run a 5k in under X minutes, etc.
T = when will you achieve this goal by, ie time, date etc.
S = Is it sustainable? Can you maintain the strategy and necessary actions to get what you want, and when you get there are you preapared to do what it takes to maintain it?
There are many techiques we can apply to successfully achieving your 2017 Goals but SMARTS is a good start. I’m here if you want a more personalised strategy.
I have also written several articles on successful goal setting, email me and I will send them to you.

Many of us believe in the importance of and want to have a tasty and filling but healthy breakfast – I often hear that time is often the stumbling block. Well here is a suggestion for you.
Slow Cooker Porridge
If you aren’t using your slow cooker/croc pot for dinner why not prepare your beakfast in it the night before and then in the morning everyone can help themselves to a healthy breakfast no matter what time they leave the house! I replace the sugar with honey or maple syrup and the milk with almond milk, throw a few walnuts and maybe some berries over the top and yummy you are set up until lunch time!
Servings: 3 -4 servings
Ingredients
3 apples, cored and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 1/2 cup semi-skimmed milk
1 cup apple cider
1/2 cup water
1 cup heaped coarse oatmeal (not rolled oats)
2 tbsp dark brown sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp ground flax seed
1/4 tsp salt
Optional garnishes: nuts,dried fruit, bananas
Method
Coat the inside of your crockpot generously with cooking spray. You will NOT want to miss this step otherwise you will be standing over the sink scraping forever!
Add all the ingredients to the crockpot (minus the garnishes), stir, cover, and cook on low for 7 hours.
Serve hot and with garnishes, if desired.
To reheat: put oatmeal in microwave-safe bowl and add a splash or two of milk to re-moisten it up. Zap it for 30 seconds, take it out, stir it around, then zap for another 10-20 seconds.
Love ya!
