Sadly I’ve had more sad, concerning news since last week’s missive, knocking me sideways, then some happy news of baby arrivals and celebrations. Another reminder that life goes on and all we can do is our best to make the most of every minute and in my view, help others when and how we can. My personal and social conscious also motivates me to look after myself properly so that I’m not a burden on my loved ones or society (I want to live a full and healthy life for myself too, so not totally altruistic). I firmly believe that we have a duty to care for ourselves for the sake of dependants, friends and loved ones. Just like Team GB’s Cycling team’s theory of marginal gains, it’s not necessarily about grand ideas or gestures but about doing all the little things all of the time eg. 7-8 hours sleep every night (insufficient sleep is linked with poor brain function, making mistakes at work, accidents, poor mood and even dementia and fat gain), breathe properly (wide and low in to the rib cage) drinking enough water, eating lots of fresh veggies, avoiding too much sugar, starch and alcohol, no illegal drugs or legal highs and only take truly necessary medicines. Don’t smoke (anything!), move your body everyday, keep joints mobile and maintain great posture, be able to raise your own body weight off the floor and chairs, bath etc. Laugh everyday, be sociable, smile, meditate daily (even 10 minutes makes all the difference) – these are the basics! Other beneficial actions include helping others (even in small ways, like make a cuppa for someone, hold doors open, donate things you don’t need /want, even a smile and a hello will make someone’s day), have a hobby, work with purpose towards your goals. Clean up your psyche, care for your personal and public environment, volunteer, have a pet, walk a dog daily …… there are lots of positive actions that will make us truly well. Most are usually simple and inexpensive, remember it’s about consistency – do all the right things all of the time. If you slip up, get out of routine get back on plan as soon as you can rather than throw in the towel. So remember…

Smiling (Is Infectious) – attributed to Karen McLendon-Laumenn/Matthew John Fraser.

Smiling is infectious,

You catch it like the flu,

When someone smiled at me today,

I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner

and someone saw my grin.

When he smiled I realised,

I’d passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,

then I realised its worth.

A single smile, just like mine

could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,

don’t leave it undetected.

Let’s start an epidemic quick,

and get the world infected!

We have new class choreography for tonight’s Boogie Fitters (beginners and returners) so a perfect night to start, also a special routine for Thursday’s Dancespiration and as always, fresh content and focused/individualised instruction for all classes. All of this makes me smile!

Read on for class news, presentation updates and a healthy recipe (also details of Jan Mazan’s Funeral for those who wish to bid her a fond farewell)

Message from Jake Mazan

‘If you knew my Mum/Jan Mazan it would mean a great deal to my family if you could join us in celebrating her life at the Aldershot Crematorium on the 13th March at 3pm. There will be a gathering afterwards, which again you will be all very welcome to be a part of, but that location has yet to be confirmed. There will be a collection for Cancer Research on the day if you wish to make a donation.

Please wear something colourful.

Fun’k – Raiser!

I’m presenting a class (Burlesque Fitness Fusion) at this wonderful and worthwhile event. It’s all for a fantastic cause and brilliant fun. I would love it if I could take a crew of DYBO Divas to support this event, who’s going to join me?

Class members Vicki and Abi are running the Fleet Half Marathon on 19th March to raise funds!

Please show them the DYBO family love if you can. Support both the charity and the girls on the day! Good luck Paola Macallister who is also running!

Message from Vicki – Weʼre raising £700 to split fundraising between Little Elves Pre-School, Fleet and Henry Tyndale School, Farnborough for all their help and support with Alex Bee.
