I hope you have had a wonderful week and enjoyed the online videos I left you and the classes that Daisy taught live for you! I would love your feedback regarding both please. With local lockdowns and threatened Covid spikes etc., it’s always good to have alternative options moving forward if these worked for you.
Well our trip to Devon wasn’t really what we had hoped, the weather wasn’t our friend, the accommodation wasn’t what we had expected and so the restful holiday we had longed for didn’t happen.
I told myself to create the experience I wanted but after 5 days I was done, it was too much effort and so after trying to dodge the rain clouds and find somewhere for a quiet picnic Declan said “where can we find a quiet, private spot to relax and have a picnic” and I realised that spot was our back garden which had been bathed in sunshine the entire time we had been away! So we packed up our stuff, I clicked the heels of my ruby slippers and came home early – where we cracked on with home stuff and lit the BBQ – I actually put on my bikini for the first time since last Summer and got a little sun.
On Saturday afternoon I danced with Daisy via an online Pro Class video, which was fun! As I was with Daisy I was accountable to a time, a place and to give it some effort, Daisy is wonderful dance company. I tend to work harder when I’m being taught live (face to face or by Zoom) so having Daisy there really helped me focus and give it my all. Which is something to consider when you are planning your week of fitness and dance – do you need to be held accountable or can you train just as well on your own following a video?
I’m back to PT and classes with new choreography/content for classes and for members, I will add the recordings to our Vimeo page to access (in addition to our live classes). The new music Sync copyright license only allows me to keep the videos available for two weeks before they are removed. I have paid for a larger capacity but might need to remove some before the two weeks is up in order to upload the others.
If you are not a member and want to do one of the videos let me know and I can take the credit from your voucher or pay by Bacs, £6.50.
Looking ahead
In September I will be launching my BOOST campaign, the focus being on Boosting Our
Immune system,
Metabolism,
Health,
Fitness,
Mood,
Self-confidence
and
Well-being
in readiness for the Autumn and beyond.
It appears that we are all more vulnerable to Covid-19 in the colder winter months and boosting our immune system, maintaining optimal weight and being as healthy as possible is key to fighting this nasty virus.
Boost will take the form of nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, sleep, breathing and rest advice and support. I‘m working on the details now – let me know if you are interested in joining.
Keeping an eye on things
I’m watching my colleagues in the fitness and dance industry carefully as some attempt to return to face to face teaching. Many are anxious, as are their participants, and some have discovered that with the many restrictions and added costs, it is simply not financially viable to return. I have seen many small and large gyms, and studios close for good, which is so sad for all involved.
All Hallows will let us know in late September when we can return to our face to face classes. I have lots to sort out to ensure we are all safe and that it’s viable to return. In the meantime I’m truly happy to continue supporting your physical and mental health, fitness and well being via our Zoom classes and Face to Face one to one sessions.
Please tell everyone you know about our classes, your recommendations and testimonials are incredibly important for spreading the word about DYBO and our work.
If you have feedback ideas and suggestions then do share then with me.
DYBO Lido
Following the announcement of the opening of outdoor pools we are pleased to add to our outdoor gym ….the Lido! As you can see it’s totally socially distanced and can be booked online for greater convenience, so much easier than driving to the Witterings.

How to prepare your environment
- You need space to move 2 side steps, 4 walks forward, 4 backward. Move trip hazards and furniture as much as you can (get help, be careful!) to give you maximum space for upper and lower body movement. Roll up rugs or secure them so they don’t slip or cause you to trip.
- Plugging your device in to your TV with an HDMI cable is brilliant as it gives you a good picture of you (like a mirror) and me – as well as boosting the sound if you go through the TV/Hi-Fi sound system. If you can place your device under the TV, then even better.
- I know some of you are using your phones – try to plug in to a speaker system (even those little speakers we have when we go on holiday would help) so that you can hear better as you move back from the phone. Angie has tried Bluetooth earphones and it worked well.
- Ensure you have maximum access to your Wi-Fi in the house and as close to the router as is feasible. Take phones off the Wi-Fi system and pop them on to your 4/5G network or place on airplane mode, unless that’s what you are using to join us, obviously. Ask family to do the same for the duration of your class – keep them off the internet whilst you need the bandwidth. The more bandwidth you have, the better the picture and sound and the less likely you are to lose the feed. Your health is a priority at this time and I’m sure they can do something else for that short time!
- Ventilate your exercise space, have plenty of water and towels to hand, keep your exercise equipment close – if you need anything, let me know.
- Wear correct footwear for your activity – putting an old pair of socks over the toes and ball of your trainers will help reduce friction when exercising on carpet (if they are a really old pair, cutting the toes open and then just having them over the ball of the foot is even better). It’s up to you if you want to dance or train in bare feet but be careful if you don’t usually do this as it takes time for the muscles and connective tissue of the feet and rest of the body to adapt to barefoot training.
- Make your own gym equipment. Save laundry liquid or milk bottles – you can fill them with water or wet sand/rice etc. to add weight and make a dumbell/kettlebell. I recommend you make a few in differing weights and you have written on them so you know what they weigh and seal the caps with tape to prevent leakage. Get a heavy duty shopping bag and put weighty items in it, check they can’t fall out and you have a kettlebell alternative. Make your own hurdles, put cushions, pillows, boxes, books on the floor to jump over. Use household items as floor markers for circuit activities. The stairs and outdoor steps are great temporary steps/benches for cardio and upper body work. The garden is a great open space to make an assault course or if you can get a signal, take your class or PT session outside, but do make it safe.
