Do you ever wonder if anyone really listens to you? Yeah me too. For years I have shared the amazing things that I have learned about the human body and mind only to find that a few folks ignore or doubt my learnings until a celebrity, social media or newspaper puts their weight behind them!

Take sugar for example; for several years I have been sharing my research and findings about how a sugar and ‘carbohydrate heavy’ diet being the biggest issue for our nation in terms of obesity and weight issues. I have promoted, core stability training, postural alignment, mobility and flexibility training as being our essential foundation work, with body weight, resistance and agility training as being essential for metabolic, bone and hormonal health. I have warned my industry colleagues that pre-packaged fitness products will de-skill instructors, putting excellent training organisations out of business, eventually resulting in poorly instructed classes and training sessions. Poorly paid and undervalued staff has resulted in a rapid turnover of instructors who simply can’t afford to invest in developing or updating their knowledge or indeed live on their wages.  We are often (but not always) left with young and inexperienced teachers, or folks who do their job because they are getting paid to workout in front of people, or for whom it’s a hobby or sideline. I shake my head in dismay at what I hear and see, especially when I see the annual New Year’s plethora of celebrity of DVDs, diets and magazine spreads. Possessing visible Abs and air brushed promotional photos and being young does not an expert make.

Every week I ask for your questions and feedback and occasionally I get one or two, I really do want to know what is/isn’t working for you, how I can help you understand what you are doing or help you get more from us working together. I believe that getting your head straight when it comes to setting and achieving your health and fitness goals (well, any goal really) is essential. A handful of class members have taken me up on the offer to assist you get to when you want to be in 2016 – if you don’t know where you are going don’t be surprised when you don’t get anywhere, go round I circles or get lost. Even if you don’t want to join us in our ‘2016 wish, dreams and goals project’ ask yourself what do I really want and how am I going to get it!
