Despite the ‘no weather’, weather I’m feeling the summer vibe, inspired by all the music festivals, the ‘glamping’ and the beautiful giant daisy and buttercup filled meadows. Undeterred by temperature I slip on an extra layer, stick on some summer tunes or get outside with the dogs and just crack on with my personal summer vibe (try it, it feels good!).
Today is the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta (the great charter). Its creation began a journey towards equality in terms of all of us being subject to the law of the land including monarchs, religious leaders and so on. Now politically and practically this is still an ongoing process but my point is that good people, when working collectively and with positive intention, can create change, we all can stand up and speak our mind and find like-minded folk to stand beside us. This is what I’m trying to do in support of raised standards, practice and professionalism of teaching in health, fitness and dance. Honestly, there are times when it’s an uphill battle and I wonder why I put myself and family through it, especially when I seem to be pushing against the tide of budget gyms and packaged fitness products which have the weight of financiers rather than passionate fit/dance pros and teachers behind them. Our local area is about to have yet another gym franchise open up – this one boasts 24-hour operation including classe (oh btw, the classes are played on video screens!!! I ‘ll leave you to consider the implications there).
I rely on your belief and support that what I’m doing is worthwhile and valued, without that I might throw in the towel become a mad dog/cat/alpaca/pig /animal sanctuary lady with wild hair living in the sun somewhere, ha ha!

Gen says thanks
Genevieve sent me a message to thank you all for the card and flowers waiting for her when she returned home from her sad trip to Holland, where she said goodbye to her mum after her sudden and unexpected passing. Knowing you all care has meant a great deal to her.

Disappointment!
Despite winning 7 of the 12 rounds in the Pearl Izumi Tour Series and wearing the leaders jerseys as they entered the final stage in Bath last Thursday night, Steve’s One Pro Boys were knocked off top spot (and therefore coming second overall) after team captain Yanto Barker’s frame simply snapped under him resulting in him a having a horrid crash and then being run over by another rider. Battered with a bike in two pieces Yanto was too far away from the pits to get a spare bike and so the race was lost to the team as all 5 riders have to count. Teammate Marcin Bialoblocki went on to prove that ONE Pro are a force to be reckoned with by storming to individual victory on the night. The team were crushed but were back on their bikes this Sunday at the 180km Wales Velothon and helped Marcin place 5th – the highest place by any of the UK teams (against tough European competition!)
Looking ahead there is still a lot of bike racing ahead for the team with racing in Newcastle next weekend and the GB champs in 2 weeks. Indeed the DYBO family, some of whom (my sister Melanie included) will be participating in the Ride London event coming up on Sunday 2nd August. The non-competitive ride takes place in the morning and the Pro riders will take over entertainment in the afternoon, riding a 125 mile route through the London and Surrey areas. We will of course be finding a suitable place to cheer them on from. All are welcome, it’s a fun day where we take a picnic, enjoy a laugh and of course spend the day energetically supporting those brave souls on their bikes!
Bravo
DYBO class member Rachel Barkess, did the Edinburgh Moonwalk over the weekend – she spent 7.5 hours walking through the city all night and braving the unseasonal chill. Well done Rachel!
Recipe: Helen’s Thai Asparagus and Chicken Pasta/Rice Supper
Here is another yummy asparagus recipe as it’s still in season and yummy.
As you know time-consuming cooking isn’t something I do, so try this for speed and nutrition.
Bunch of asparagus, ¼ lemon juice, chicken breast, pasta, coconut milk, green thai curry paste. 1 potato cooked and mashed. Whole wheat/gluten free pasta or you could use brown rice instead!
Steam boil asparagus, squeeze lemon over when cooked and add black cracked pepper to taste.
Grill chicken.
Cook pasta.
Heat coconut milk, add mashed potato and green thai curry paste, stir well for 5mins
Add chicken and pasta and stir together
Serve with Asparagus laid across the top. Salt and pepper to taste
Yummy!
Tell me what you think!
Do you have any healthy yummy recipes to share?
Have a wonderful week with or without a jumper!!
Love ya
Helen
