Should I bring up the subject of those promises you made to yourself at the start of the year? (I have the ones you shared with me in my locked office drawer). Are you on track, if not what are you going to do about it?

I’m so grateful for the long weekend, I’ve been spinning lots of plates lately and I needed to catch up with myself, how about you – what did you get up to?

Whilst the promised heatwave has yet to show itself, we are almost in June and so the chances of some sun and raised temperatures are a distinct possibility.

Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day to ensure you are well hydrated. Frequent, persistent and short term dehydration is seriously bad for you for many reasons, both in the short and long term. Impaired physical and mental performance at class or training are just two disadvantages, and on hot days I can often see its effects on you guys. Drinking sufficient, regular amounts throughout the day is the best way to stay hydrated. Often we find ourselves really thirsty and then glugging huge amounts of water, this can result in upset stomach, stomach/bowel cramps and overwhelming our body cells and kidneys so we end up passing urine without absorbing that precious water. So our pee is pale but our cells are still dehydrated. The answer is to drink approximately a total of 2 litres of water (including fluid from fruit, veg, teas, juices cordial etc.) at regular intervals throughout the day. Other tips for rehydration include drinking water at room temperature for quick absorption (or even better body temperature, 36-37 degrees). A tiny pinch of salt can assist with hydration in hot temperatures and during exercise (take advice from your GP if you suffer from high blood pressure).

We need you…

…to spread the word about our classes and services. Class numbers for a couple of classes are putting those classes at risk of closure so please help us to continue to help you by:

Keep coming every week – every one of your sessions counts for your fitness, health and figure as well as ensuring that we can balance the books!

We encourage you to choose the best payment option, and loyalty scheme for you so please refer to the terms and conditions e.g., vouchers must be used within 8 weeks of purchase and are valid for Monday to Thursday classes only (Fridays’ sessions are courses and are therefore not included)

Daisy ‘s quest

Our beautiful ballerina is swapping her pointe shoes for running shoes and taking part in a sponsored run for ‘Crisis’. Please sponsor Daisy if you can.

Dancers often don’t make the best runners, but she wants to help homeless folks that Crisis support, I agree and believe that ‘there but for the grace of god go I’.

I saw this and thought of you!

You know I love Mr Whippy ice cream? Well going veggie and sugar-free means it’s off my list! Well I came across this recipe and thought that you might like it too, tell me what you think.

Double chocolate dairy free ice cream

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large ripe avocado, peeled and chopped
  • ½ cup canned lite coconut milk
  • ¼ cup honey or pure maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • dash of salt
  • 3 tbsp mini chocolate chips
  •  I choose organic and dairy free ingredients

INSTRUCTIONS

1  Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor (or nutribullet). It may take some stirring, but eventually it should blend together and become super smooth and creamy. Stir in chocolate chips.

Once all the ingredients are well blended, pour into a container (eg Tupperware) and freeze, for at least 4-6 hours, or until frozen solid. Once frozen, remove from freezer and let ice cream soften on the counter for a while before trying to scoop it. You could also zap in in the microwave for a few seconds)

Now when you hear that ice cream van, there is no need to run out in to the road!

If you have comments, suggestions questions or feedback do get in touch.

Remember we want to help you!

Love ya,

Helen
