Yes it’s cold – ‘quelle horreur’, in January who would have thought it!
So let’s don those thermal base layers and create a warm foundation for everything that sits above. Everything needs good foundations right? Weak foundations in buildings will result in cracks, subsidence, instability and eventual collapse and decay.
You know where I’m going with this right? The foundations for excellent mental and physical health are created by a healthy gut microbiome, strong heart, lungs and internal organs, stable and aligned joints, strong and flexible muscles supporting and moving a balanced skeletal system (i.e. great posture), behaviours and thoughts that support mental health. What we wear on our body, how we wear our hair, make up and perfume is the cherry on top.
Our society tends to focus on the cherry and the quick fix, cover up and fakery rather than the foundations – but no skin care regime can make up for a bad diet or lack of water, no eye cream can replace or do a better job than sleep, no cleverly cut outfit or foundation garment that can do the job of great posture and strong muscles, just as surgical strapping can’t do as good a job as our own stabilising ligaments, tendons and muscles (like painting a wall that doesn’t have mortar between the bricks, the cracks will quickly show, the wall will fail and fall).
We can, and it’s wise to, continually reinforce and strengthen our foundations. Life provides wear and tear (pollution, stress, sedentary jobs, fast food etc.) and like the wall, short cuts, cheap materials and poor workmanship will not work in the long term (can you tell we are having building work done, ha ha!)
Good workmanship always looks better and performs better in the present and most definitely in the future – no one is ever happy about not taking better care of themselves when they are ill, or older! Good health, fitness and diet are for all our life, from conception to grave, and what we do with our mind and body when we are young, we pay for as we go through life and get older!
Parents and older relatives not only have the responsibility to care for themselves so that they are here for a long as possible in as healthy a state as possible for their youngsters (and also be a great example and inspiration) but also to ensure that the foundations of their youngsters are strong sound and healthy too. When in the womb our baby girls already have the eggs in their little ovaries that will eventually become our grandchildren! How Mums care for themselves will affect their grandchildren…… mind blown!

It works!
Class member Sandy sent me this message…
“I went for a medication review where my height was measured. The nurse was surprised as she said I had grown! My posture has not been good (years slumping over a computer) and I had lost half an inch over the last few years but I think all the stretching and standing tall has helped me to stand up straight and gain back that half inch. Thank you Helen.”
Sandy is thrilled and so am I!
