‘The best things in life are free’ and when we invest in these things we can greedily feast. ie sleep, fresh air, water, movement (dance, exercise, walking running), love and relationships, plus natural, uncomplicated, unprocessed food that comes straight from the earth.
Sometimes we invest a lot in other stuff such as working for money to buy things that make us look good, powerful, important, buy favour or give us temporary happiness, leaving us with little time, focus or energy to take what we need of those most important, but free things.
The Dalai Lama said “Man surprised me most about humanity. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
My own personal mission statement is “To help others reach for their own personal and professional potential irrespective of age, gender or experience.’ And I want that for me too.
My highest intention is to have peace.
Only one week ago we were reeling (and still are) after the dreadful bombing in Manchester, many peoole asking ‘what has become of this world’, when we look beyond the wicked brainwashed and mindless actions of this one individual we will see the 100’s of people rushing forward to help others, even putting their own safety at risk and from then, in the following hours and days, the love kindness and practical help from the many 1000’s locally and indeed support from across the world. The actions of these few deranged people are by far outnumbered by the love, kindness and heroic efforts of the many – there are still many, many more good people than bad.
When we pull together we achieve great things! Rather like a huge hornet or predator entering a honey bee hive – together the bees protect the Queen ,the young, the small and weak. Evil/delusion cannot triumph when we work together.
In my view when we focus on the simple but most important things as outlined above we remove the breeding ground for illness, dysfunction and dysharmony.
In an effort to have balance in my own life I took my foot of the gas this weekend, played with my dogs, worked on my edible patio garden (believe it or not things are growing and I’m already eating my salad leaves!!). I also went to the county show, watched a movie and hung with my loved ones.

Doing good for ourselves and others
On Saturday I taught a class in memory of my fitness friend, Jan, who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year. By my side was my fitness buddy Elaine with whom I used to teach at FRC back in the 80’s and early 90’s.
I created a special 80’s playlist and choreographed fun and simple routines to teach to Jan’s ladies.
Together we sweated, laughed, cried and hugged – it was emotional. Special thanks to the girls from DYBO who came and gave me their moral support even though some had never met Jan. That kindness and love certainly helped me keep my chin up (or as Jo said ‘putting on my big girl pants’).
I know many of us have been touched by cancer and this event raised over £300 (so far) for the cancer research charity.
The next event for this charity is in June and I would love to have as many of you, who can make it, join me for a day of fantastic, fun and fabulous classes.
All presenters (including me) are giving their time freely. I would love to have my DYBO family by my side.

Huge Bravo
to Clare Gillson and her buddy Janine Sutton…who walked from London to Brighton this past Saturday and did it in 23 hours and 46 minutes! That is simply an amazing feat of endurance and determination!
They really did suffer with sore muscles, joints, blisters and fatigue but persevered in aid of the Breast Cancer charity. Here is the link if you would like to make a contribution…

So sorry for your loss…
I found out last night that Joe DeBono’s wife, Debbie passed away this weekend.
Debbie has suffered from very poor health for most of her life and Joe has been a devoted husband and carer for their many years together.
We are sorry for your loss, Joe and send you our DYBO family love.
Stress makes us fat!
It’s true many folks hold up their stressful lifestyle and martyrdom as a badge of honour, an excuse for certain behaviours, habits and so on.
I know that life can overwhelm us at times and not always of our own making but ongoing stress from lifestyle choices not only ruins relationships and prospects but also our health and figure.
When stressed we produce a hormone, ‘Cortisol’ which provides us with the necessary fight, flight or freeze response to danger. We are hard wired to preserve our lives in these situations irrespective of where the stress is coming from. Part of that response is to put us in to our factory setting of ‘fat preservation and strorage mode’ So no matter what you eat or how hard you exercise, long term stress will inhibit fat loss and promote fat gain .
The only successful plan to combat this is to reset your system, clean up your life style and re-boot your metabolism. We do this by adapting your diet to a health healing nutrient dense chemical-free one, with lots of veggies, natural and lean protein, free from stimulants such as caffeine and depressants such as alcohol. Drink plenty of water everyday and, whenever possible, ditch drugs and of course, cigarettes.
Undertake daily exercise including stretching, cardio vascular training and muscle strengthening (at an optimal intensity specific to meet your needs). By the way you can spread all these activities across the week, not everyday. Overtraining creates stress too.
Daily meditation, relaxation, laughing and playing are all effective de-stressers
We all know that being over-fat increases our risk of major diseases and reduces life expectancy but most importantly (in my view) it affects life quality.
If you aren’t bothered by your appearance (I’m 100% a supporter of self love and body positivity), good for you, please be motivated to stay healthy though.
