Please read important health information, advice, plus class and one to one protocols.

On the subject of hand washing I would prefer to go cashless at classes/training etc. so ideally please pay directly in to the UK Fitness Academy Ltd Bank account 09-01-28 acc No 04284324 before your class. If you don’t bank online please place your payment in an envelope so I can deal with it when I get home and can wash my hands after handling it. Many thanks.

Thank you for adhering to our increased Anti Coronavirus precautions. Updated!

By taking these small and easy measures we can better protect each other and the more vulnerable members of our society from contracting the Coronavirus.

At Classes

I shall be wedging doors open so that you don’t have to touch them, plus opening window for ventilation. I am now working equipment free and no hands-on correction.

  • Please use the hand sanitiser provided and kept on the reception desk before, and after you have attended class. You can of course wash your hands in the loo first then sanitise too.
  • I recommend you wash your hands regularly throughout the day, remember to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ twice (20-30 seconds) and work the soap between the fingers and around the thumbs too.
  • Please change from outdoor shoes into your indoor training shoes when you arrive at class, I recommend that after wiping your feet on the door mat you sit on the benches to the left to remove your shoes then walk to your favourite spot to pop on your workout shoes. Do this reverse when you go home.
  • By doing so we can significantly reduce the bugs and dirt from the ground outside getting onto our skin and clothes and it reduces wear on our indoor footwear too.
  • Please bring a large towel to class and place it on the exercise mat or bring your own mat. I recommend a small hand towel to mop up sweat on you and our equipment.
  • I shall bring an anti-bacterial spray for mats and equipment to spray after using equipment please use.
  • Cough/sneeze into a paper tissue and dispose of immediately, or – if caught short, into the crook of your elbow.

One to One

  • Please change from outdoor to indoor shoes upon arrival, and change again following your session.
  • Wash hands for 20-30 seconds in the cloakroom before training.
  • Use a tissue then hand sanitizer, if coughing or sneezing,
  • Bring your own clean hand towel for training, towels for massage are provided and are always changed after every client, but you can of course bring your own if you prefer
  • Please bring own labeled sports drinking bottles.
  • The gymnasium will be sanitized in between clients so please maintain appointment times to allow for this to happen
  • Don’t exercise or attend class if you have illness symptoms below the neck e.g. fever/elevated temperature, chest tightness pain or breathing difficulty, muscle aches and pains (not attributable to exercise or general stiffness).

Back to hand washing!

I read an interesting piece about why washing our hands is the best Anti Covid-19 virus action we can take (along with not touching face and keeping our distance). Here it is…

So there are lots of people from the health service telling everyone that washing your hands is the best way to defeat Covid-19, but lots of people (most?) seem to think that this is a bit silly. How can washing your hands be SO important, and how can it defeat a virus that’s causing so much havoc worldwide?? Well here’s the science bit, because I’m a nerd who likes to know “why” something happens.

The outer wall of a virus is made of lipids; they’re kinda like oils or fats, that’s a simple way of putting it. It’s called a lipid layer. Behind the lipid layer is the virus, it’s made up of proteins and RNA, which is kinda like DNA and it’s what lets the virus replicate. That’s really it, it’s that simple (unless you have a PhD and there’s a few on here with them, but this is for the rest of us who are a bit thick!).

So, what about the washing of hands with soap?? Here’s the part that nobody is being told, but it’s important (it’s especially important if your a nerd ). Soap is made up of loads and loads of lipids, it what makes soap feel so soft and smooth….When you wash your hands really well you get all these lipids on your hands. So if you have Covid-19 on your hands the lipids in the virus wall start to break down, because the lipids in the virus lipid layer are soluble in the lipids in your soap on your hands.

So when you break down the lipid layer you end up destroying the proteins and the RNA. It’s kinda like years ago when your Dad used to clean a paintbrush with turpentine, it’s because the paint was soluble in turpentine…..it’s really that simple.

Here is also an excellent video with Dr Myhill for self help against viral infection.

I already have a vitamin supplement that includes C, D plus others and a salt pipe but my Iodine is on its way !

And another with Dr Teta who recommends Zinc lozenges (plus Vitamin C)

Hand Sanitizer Recipe

Here is a recipe for a homemade hand sanitizer for when you are away from soap and water. Pop it in your sports bag, hand bag etc.

Ingredients
⅔ cup 99% rubbing alcohol, ⅓ cup aloe vera gel

Materials
1 mixing bowl, 1 mixing utensil, a clean funnel, a thoroughly washed and dried bottle with a resealable lid or pump to store sanitizer.

I have re-purposed some face wash and shampoo containers for my homemade sanitizer.

Mix together and decant, if you want it thicker add more Aloe Vera – more runny, add more Alcohol.
