Hey look at the date – it’s all 1’s and 5’s, I like the balance of it.
Maybe it’s a good luck sign for getting balance back into our lives after the excesses of the festive season. Now don’t misunderstand me, I love the tasty food, drink and lots of Christmas telly; it helps re-dress the balance of a very physical job with long hours and so on, and as my very wise grandfather would tell me “all things in moderation including moderation”. Too much of the Christmas lifestyle is not moderation – I enjoyed it for a couple of weeks and now I’m happy to be back to my usual diet, exercise and work pattern…actually, I can now say that I missed it!
Whilst I was taking a break from teaching classes (although I was Personal Training over the festive break), I caught up on researching, writing and choreographing, ready to start 2015 ahead of schedule and it feels good!
With an eye on feeling good in 2015, I have 3 tips for you at the end of this newsletter.
Excited!
I’m excited to be teaching 2 new classes and they begin tonight. Yay!
My regular DYBO dancers have worked really hard and become so good now that we have decided to add a beginners dance fitness class into the schedule to teach new and returners to our classes how to get fit and learn how to dance.
Boogie Fit (6.30pm) is a class dedicated to teaching participants fitness with a dance flavour at a pace of learning that is dictated by those attending; a variety of movements and styles will be included across the weeks..
The Middle Bit (7.15pm) is an Abs and Backs focused class, taught in a different way with lots of movement and functional exercises along with motivating music to help inspire us to train effectively in just 30minutes.
You can stay on after Boogie Fit or come early for Cardio Dance and participate in The Middle Bit for free or you can attend just The Middle Bit for £3.50.
Note: Cardio Dance now starts at 7.45pm
The rest of the week is as follows…
Tuesday is Bodyblitz (6.30pm) – a ‘HIIT’ circuit class that changes every week, ensuring you are challenged and inspired and consequently enjoy continued motivation and great results – & ‘Dance Fit Hi Lo’ (7.30pm). I’ve choreographed a brand new routine for you to enjoy and I love it, it’s a modern Spanish/Latin style to start the New Year.
Thursday’s Contemporary Stretch (6.15pm) is full of whole body stretching, releasing and revitalising movements to assist us realign and regain our sense of balance and mobility, and it feels so good!
DYBO, now called ‘Dancespiration’ (7.30pm) has a new fabulous routine to inspire and challenge you; our first routine of 2015 has a commercial dance flavour and yes, I love it!
Fridays – the snow has arrived late in Europe but it’s here at last so if you are going skiing, then Ski Fit (6.30pm) is perfect for your preparations, ensuring you can make the most of your skiing holiday. If you aren’t going skiing you can pretend, with me, and enjoy a great workout that is fabulous for your butt, thighs, core and for working off the Christmas food, baby! (Please book ahead to guarantee you place)
New Year, New You??
Well what was wrong with the old you?…‘Erm and when are you exactly an old or “new you”?!
We are bombarded with promotions that suggest we should be better than we are already! With images of downsized celebrities and bronzed, chiseled fitness models prompting us to ask ourselves “how we dare be seen in public without a Kaftan if we don’t have a six pack”, it can make even the most content and secure of us wonder if we should be ‘fixing’ ourselves to match the opinions/expectations of others.
Well in my view, that’s great if that’s what you want but it’s also great to aim to be healthy and as fit as YOU want to be, to do the things that YOU enjoy and make YOU happy, to aim to be free from injury, illness, aches and pains, to look attractive to yourself (and anyone else whose opinion matter to you), to be comfortable in your own skin and so on.
I can help folks achieve all sorts of goals in fitness, figure and their personal or professional lives – that’s my job, I love it and I find helping others achieve their goals hugely rewarding. You see, one person’s goal is completely different from another’s as are the reasons they have for achieving them. I have assisted people get to the top of their sport, lose huge amounts of weight, or gain weight and shape, get into the splits, give up smoking, booze and get their blood pressure, and cholesterol down, etc. They told me what they wanted, we ascertained why and if those reasons were congruent with their desired outcomes, their values beliefs etc. and then together created a strategy to achieve it.
My point?
Is for you to strive for what you want/don’t want in your life, how you want to feel, do, look like etc., not because you are guilted into doing it but because it’s what YOU want!
There are many ways to achieve your goals and it can be overwhelming. Changing too many things at once is often part of a failed strategy, so if one of your goals this year is to have more energy, be fitter, slimmer and healthier, start with this:
(now brace yourself it’s complicated)
Drink more water! (8 glasses daily)
Get more sleep (6-8 hours)
Be more active, and doing what you enjoy!
Start there – it might be all you need, if not, you can come and see me and we can get you on the pathway to achieving what you want.
Remember, continuing to do what you’ve always done will continue to give you what you’ve always got!
Happy New Year
Love ya,
Helen xx
