I wonder how you are getting on with your 2020 plans and healthy habits?
I’ve had mixed success! For me, the work life balance bit is still more work and not enough play/rest, getting back to 10 classes (all with new choreography) plus 20 one to one appointments was a challenge last week but I did it and have loved receiving wonderful feedback thank you. The sleep hygiene goal is mostly a fail and I will do better. The gut health has been going well and I’m on to Phase Two as of Monday, which I’m looking forward to. I have successfully and consistently been practicing my daily thankfulness and am keeping a jar containing notes where I record lovely things from the day – I shall read them between Christmas and New year and remind myself of how lucky I am. So far I have been thank full every day for my lovely class members and clients who have come back to classes full of fun and enthusiasm.

How about you?
How has 2020 been going for you and your goals?
Very interesting!
You know that I’m a firm believer in living a healthy life style; you also know that I am a vegetarian and do my best to help animals, people and the planet by doing good where I can and at least no harm. When asked about why I’m a veggie I’m happy to share but don’t wish to force my views on others.
last Thursday I watched the channel four program ‘Apocalypse Cow’ where the documentary maker investigated various aspects of food production, meat and plant based farming, and it’s effects on the planet and ecosystems across the world.

A great deal was made of how damaging the factory farming methods used in more recent years have been on the environment and that the soil in which we grow our food and that of the animals raised to enter the food chain is now devoid of nutrients and thus the plants grown as food are also lacking in nutrients too. The process of adding fertilizers to the soil to try and get things to grow has poisoned the waterways, which are now unable to maintain a natural and healthy ecosystem and hardly any small water insects live in these waters resulting in fewer fish, waterfowl, and waterway mammals.
He visited an organic farm that for over 20 years has used no fertilizers or pesticides, relying on a deep rooted plant that draws up nutrients from deep in the soil which is then cut and left to decay on the ground to feed the upper layers of soil. He encourages all bugs and insects to live on his farm in order to maintain the ecosystem, predating on each other and thus leaving his vegetables alone. Over the past 20 year the fertility and quality of his soil and there fore produce has improved (whilst everyone else’s has worsened) he is also in profit as his crops flourish and he isn’t spending money on fertilizers and pesticides!
The reason I supplement my diet with top quality nutritional products is because I can’t always access organic and locally sourced veggies and fruit. Since I have been taking my supplements (Synergy’s Phytolife, Pro Argi 9, Magnesium and at times Active’s Probiotics – these supplements are guaranteed organic and 100% batch tested) my energy, gut, health, hair and skin have improved.
Unless we are eating 10 portions of vegetables daily that have guaranteed amounts of minerals and vitamins then we are likely to be deficient, which will significantly affect our short and long-term health and appearance. We must continue to eat fibrous veggies and fruits for gut health, so supplementation is not instead of eating real food (unless you want to have the hassle of supplementing fibre and so on and giving up on eating proper meals and I’m certainly NOT advocating that!) In an ideal world supplementation wouldn’t be necessary and whilst its not an ideal solution it’s the only one that works for me until I can have my own organic veggie and fruit farm, and I be like Tom and Barbara from ‘the good life‘!
As a Vegetarian…
I’m often asked how do I get enough protein and calcium, well there are many sources from plants! It’s about having a well balanced diet in the same way that meat eaters are often deficient in many nutrients because they eat a highly processed diet short of sufficient fruit, vegetables and fiber, not that any one seems to ask them about that! Calcium absorption is also reliant on having sufficient magnesium and chlorophyll – both come from plants! Us veggies do need to think about how to get enough B12 and we can via eggs, dairy products, fortified cereals, nutritional yeast, Shitaki mushrooms and the Algae Nori. Personally I supplement via Pro Argi 9 which has my daily requirement in one serving.
