…it’s a New Day…… and I’m feeling goooooood!

Each and every moment is a gift, that’s why its called the present and if we spend too much time looking backwards, focusing what we are missing or always looking head and planning for our future we are missing out on what we actually have and can create now in our present.

I’m not suggesting that some time looking back to and smiling with our memories or allowing our past to inform or inspire our present and future decisions and actions is a bad thing – absolutely not! I’m suggesting that too much time looking backwards will prevent us from moving forwards, seeing where we are going with energy and purpose, and yet looking forwards too much will prevent us from living each and every precious moment that we have now. I believe in planning ahead to make life wonderful as we live it (but not so much so that we don’t have the time to focus on it) and equally no planning may lead to us not living our best life as it happens…so once again for me it is all about getting balance.

2020 and 2021 are not how we would have imagined; I have no historic reference of experience to directly help me prepare for what is ahead. What I do have is my knowledge of how to care for my mind and body and how to help others with theirs as we move through this time in our history in the best way we can, maintaining our health to live now and to be living optimally ahead of now!

How is it going? As I enter the second week of my Gut Purify, let me share some experiences with you. The first couple of days where motivation is high are easier than the third day. As the sugar loving gut bacteria start to crave their addiction, messages are sent to my brain (via the vagus nerve) asking me to have something to feed ‘them’ – notice I say ‘them’ not me. My human cells don’t need that simple sugar – I have all the nutrition my body cells, and the health giving gut bacteria that live in me, require and they are now being given more room to thrive and multiply.

Knowing this helps me to push through understanding what good I’m doing for myself (boosted immunity and ability to fight disease, balanced metabolism, hormones, energy, clearer skin, clearer head, reduced inflammation and pain and so on).

Once past Day 3 and it’s much easier and now it’s about breaking emotional eating habits especially at the weekend when the reward or boredom-driven eating/drinking behaviour can take over. But nope, I’ve pushed through cravings and I’m not letting those negative habits that will de-rail me and thus prevent me from achieving my objective. My strategy to succeed is planning, keeping a journal, being held accountable, by myself and others (our gut health group is part of that), being active/exercise/productive every day, cracking on with tasks, practicing ‘self-care Sundays’ and focusing on the prize, tuning out the TV and all the naysayers and be genuinely happy that I am doing this for myself.

What harm can Sugar do?

If you aren’t up for a gut health turn around then at the very least ditch the simple/processed sugar and starchy carbs and take some daily exercise!

The past week…

I have attended another online conference about the heart (6 hours on Saturday afternoon in to the evening) plus some online social media training and a bit more on my Yoga course, so some study every day.

On Sunday I presented at the Fit Camps world event, I had a fab time and am very grateful for the wonderful feedback I was given for my session. If you paid to attend you have access to all the classes for the coming 2 weeks and if you didn’t you can access them with a catch up pass.

Use my code: FCWHC

I am considering doing a special pop up Masterclass to teach the whole routine (a little different from the version I taught to the Dancespiration Divas) on a Sunday morning around 10am – are you interested?

The Weeks Ahead

How to prepare your environment

  1. You need space to move 2 side steps, 4 walks forward, 4 backward. Move trip hazards and furniture as much as you can (get help, be careful!) to give you maximum space for upper and lower body movement. Roll up rugs or secure them so they don’t slip or cause you to trip.
  2. Plugging your device in to your TV with an HDMI cable is brilliant as it gives you a good picture of you (like a mirror) and me – as well as boosting the sound if you go through the TV/Hi-Fi sound system. If you can place your device under the TV, then even better.
  3. I know some of you are using your phones – try to plug in to a speaker system (even those little speakers we have when we go on holiday would help) so that you can hear better as you move back from the phone. Angie has tried Bluetooth earphones and it worked well.
  4. Ensure you have maximum access to your Wi-Fi in the house and as close to the router as is feasible. Take phones off the Wi-Fi system and pop them on to your 4/5G network or place on airplane mode, unless that’s what you are using to join us, obviously. Ask family to do the same for the duration of your class – keep them off the internet whilst you need the bandwidth. The more bandwidth you have, the better the picture and sound and the less likely you are to lose the feed. Your health is a priority at this time and I’m sure they can do something else for that short time!
  5. Ventilate your exercise space, have plenty of water and towels to hand, keep your exercise equipment close – if you need anything, let me know.
  6. Wear correct footwear for your activity – putting an old pair of socks over the toes and ball of your trainers will help reduce friction when exercising on carpet (if they are a really old pair, cutting the toes open and then just having them over the ball of the foot is even better). It’s up to you if you want to dance or train in bare feet but be careful if you don’t usually do this as it takes time for the muscles and connective tissue of the feet and rest of the body to adapt to barefoot training.
  7. Make your own gym equipment. Save laundry liquid or milk bottles – you can fill them with water or wet sand/rice etc. to add weight and make a dumbell/kettlebell. I recommend you make a few in differing weights and you have written on them so you know what they weigh and seal the caps with tape to prevent leakage. Get a heavy duty shopping bag and put weighty items in it, check they can’t fall out and you have a kettlebell alternative. Make your own hurdles, put cushions, pillows, boxes, books on the floor to jump over. Use household items as floor markers for circuit activities. The stairs and outdoor steps are great temporary steps/benches for cardio and upper body work. The garden is a great open space to make an assault course or if you can get a signal, take your class or PT session outside, but do make it safe.
