Morning all, I have literally just walked through the door from the airport and a night flight from Houston, so a quick message to you all and then a little snooze before I start my day (again).
We had the honour and pleasure of attending our very own Julie McDowell’s
(now Taylor) USA wedding that was certainly the highlight and purpose of our 5-day trip. Julie is an incredibly high achiever and loving lady who, in return, is loved by many and there were folks from all over the US, UK and France who came to celebrate with them.
We were made very welcome and enjoyed some true Texan hospitality and sights. The NASA space centre is amazing and we got to see the original control room used from the 60’s right up to the 80’s, in addition to the Challenger flight vehicles and various rockets, space suits, equipment and vehicles. One of the most amazing things for me to hear was that the computer that took man to the moon is the size of a large room and yet our mobile phones today are more powerful computers than that NASA computer was! Man went to the moon in an elastic band airplane, ‘technologically’ compared to the computer systems of today. It was this research that resulted in much of the equipment and many products that we have today, we stand on the shoulders of those who pioneered before us. These visionaries and inventors were breaking new ground and did everything in their power with determined self-belief and that of others to make amazing, often considered impossible, things happen. They thought of every reason why and how they could, rather than why it can’t be done. Rather like the bumblebee who doesn’t know that his big body and little wings means he shouldn’t be able to fly, but he doesn’t know this so he can! We can all take the lead from those pioneers at NASA and of course our own Bumblebee, to inspire us that ‘yes we can’. Our bride Julie has done exactly that, creating a fantastic career and life for herself using her self-belief, hard work and using/building upon her talents.
