I know as I write this that many of my DYBO friends and fitness family will be spending time with family and taking a well-earned holiday. Maybe it’s due to programming gained from decades of school life but I certainly feel a need to take my foot ‘off the gas’ a bit in August and make the most of this summer month.
To this end (and based on the feed back I received from out DYBO class members), the summer schedule is adapted for August and the first week of September, so do check with the website and these newsletters to remind you what’s happening and when. It is also a time for me to pay attention to my own fitness needs, spend more time on my bike, running with the dog, having massages, spending time with family, maybe even clearing out a cupboard or too! I like to make hay whilst the sun shines so I certainly won’t be idle!
I have had an inspirational week, and the inspiration comes from close to home as well as farther afield. Read on for inspiration, news and a yummy recipe….
Class News
All classes are running as usual for the first two weeks of August
EXCEPT FOR FRIDAYS fitness sessions,
Although I have had requests for small group Yoga that we can run on Fridays as I’m available for the next two Friday nights? Let me know if you would like to be involved.
Depending upon interest we can either hold it at HQ in Church Crookham or All Hallows, let me know ASAP if you are interested.
We have new choreography this week for the Tuesday and Thursday Dance fitness and Dance classes (we always have new content for the other classes every week).
Well Done
A Big Shout out to my sister Melanie and hubby Ian who completed the London Ride 100 yesterday, I must say my heart was in my mouth when I heard that there had been several incidents and someone died on Leith Hill. So sad for the family concerned. Ian did have a mini crash but he’s ok and they both completed the 100 miles safely.
Steve’s Boys
Were in action again last week and continuing to make a massive impact on British cycling. George Atkins gained a bronze at the National Criterium Championships (ONE Pro’s other riders were unlucky with mechanical problems). Then on Sunday at the Prudential London-Surrey Classic Race they were at the front for much of the race with Pete Williams going on to win the Sprinters Points Jersey – a fantastic result despite him having 3 punctures, the rest of the boys had equally bad luck with mechanicals and eventually only Team Captain Yanto Barker managed to finish along with Pete!
It was officially announced on Thursday that ONE Pro will move up to “Pro Continental” licence level for 2016. This is amazing for such a new team and demonstrates their ability and determination. This also means we might see even less of Steve!
Inspiration
Those of you who know me know that I believe I have the perfect job for my abilities and passion; I love helping people and I love learning and sharing any thing related to heath, fitness and wellness. You also know that
(apart from my family, fitness family, dogs, cats and friends) I simply love to dance! Last week I went with some of the DYBO dames to watch a Street dance, hip hop competition and was impressed by the dedication, friendships and great sportsmanship of the young people competing and of course the choreography and dance skills. On Wednesday I went, with Jo, to see Sylvia Guillem perform in her final world tour. This lady is 50 years of age and is still at the top of her profession. She moves with a super human ‘physicalness’ that I have never seen in any one else, she is lean, strong, incredibly flexible and athletic. Her craft has been honed from early childhood and she has continued to push her own and societies boundaries about what can be achieved by the body and for how long.
Clearly the saying that “we do not stop dancing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop dancing” could never be more true in the case of Sylvia and it’s one that I believe in too. I hear all sorts of excuses as to why people can’t do this that or the other, yet it only takes one reason why you want to, to make the impossible possible. It’s all about focus and desire!
On Sunday I had a wonderful day choreographing for a show that I’m doing in conjunction with Adele’s group Aquabatix. I have four beautiful young ballerinas (including our much loved Daisy) to work with. They are new born’s from Ballet Rambert – all fresh and fabulous. They look exquisite performing my choreography and I loved having them as my creative muses, breathing life in to my imaginative dreamings. So in one week I have seen dancers at the start of their performing career and those heading towards their final standing ovation and I’m richer in spirit and inspiration for all of it.
Quick – no bread – sandwich idea!
Many people are realising that bread is not their dietary best friend; this starchy carbohydrate is often associated with food intolerances such as yeast and gluten.
It’s so convenient though isn’t it. Well, how about swapping bread with large lettuce leaves!
Simply put your filling in the middle and roll it up. If you are having it as a packed lunch/picnic you can roll it in cling film to hold the shape
I love…
Egg and cress
Cottage cheese and chives
Cheese and ham
Chicken and cashew nuts
But I’m sure…
Salmon and cream cheese or
Tuna and red onion make tasty fillings (I can’t eat fish)
All of theses high protein fillings will fill you up and give you lots of great nutrition!
Do you have any healthy meal, snack or drink suggestions you would like to share with our fitness family? If yes, send them over.
Have a wonderful week, enjoy the sun, rain and whatever inspiration comes your way.
Love ya,
Helen x
