It’s got a bit chilly! (well, it is January)

Remember – as Billy Connolly says – there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes. I think it’s great that we now have the chance to wear those lovely snuggly hats, scarves, gloves and jumpers that have beem sat waiting for an outing! You know that this cold snap is a cue for me to remind you to wrap up before and after class and to bring a dry T-shirt to pop on after you have worked hard and got all sweaty. I know most of you come to sessions in your car but it does take a while for your car to warm up and (god forbid) you might break down or need to refuel. You can’t get a cold from getting cold but it does stress your immune system; a sign of being too cold is shivering which is the first sign of hypothermia (I know it sounds dramatic). Having warm muscles before you arrive at class will allow us to prepare for exercise more quickly (reducing warm up time, maximizing workout time) and reduce our risk of muscle/joint strain.

You have been nagged!!

Lots of my clients are very busy people, juggling family, career/profession, domestic chores and relationships. This often leaves little time for ourselves. A consequence is that our own needs – for taking care of our health, wellness, fitness and time out – are too far down the ‘things to do’ list, leaving us feeling tired, unwell, unfit, unattractive, miserable and resentful! I am mindful of the air stewards advice on my recent flight: “Please ensure that you fix your own oxygen mask securely, before helping others with theirs!” If we don’t take care of our mental and physical health and fitness as a priority, it is likely to impact upon all of our roles within family, friendships and work. Many of my clients have invested in wearable fitness trackers such as Fitbits, Apple watches and the like to monitor how active they are, how well they sleep and track their food and drink too. It’s proven to be enlightening and motivating. Of course you don’t have to have one and can keep track with how much you do to take care of yourself in terms of activity, nutrition and sleep. Remember no one is indispensible professionally but we are all indispensible to our loved ones. Making sure that you do all you can to stay happy, healthy, fit and well is as important to them as it is to you! If you want more advice and assistance with your fitness, health and wellness, all you have to do is ask the DYBO team and me.
