I love this quote by C.S Lewis, it has a forward momentum, a ‘can do’, no excuses, hopeful message. The school holidays are over and it’s definitely a good time to decide how we want to be and how we want our lives to be. Create a plan, take action and crack on with it.
Always Learning
On Sunday I headed off to Warwick to hear about research into conditions related to the Microbiome, omega oils, anti-oxidants and more. There was a very interesting presentation given by a GP who kindly deciphers the medical studies, shares his thoughts and gives an overview (with references for for those who wish to follow up). Of the many interesting points he discussed, one was the link with anti-bacterial mouthwash, and how it appears to negatively affect the blood pressure reducing benefits of exercise! Quote as follows from the researchers
“It’s all to do with nitric oxide degrading into a compound called nitrate, which for years was thought to have no function in the body, but research over the last decade has shown that nitrate can be absorbed in the salivary glands and excreted with saliva in the mouth. Some species of bacteria in the mouth can use nitrate and convert into nitrite — a very important molecule that can enhance the production of nitric oxide in the body. And when nitrite in saliva is swallowed, part of this molecule is rapidly absorbed into the circulation and reduced back to nitric oxide. This helps to maintain a widening of blood vessels which leads to a sustained lowering of blood pressure after exercise.”

I take a supplement in drink form called Pro Argi 9 (you will see me drink it in class/gym). It supports the production of nitric oxide, has lots of health boosting vitamins and is based on Nobel prize winning research in to cardiac health. If you want to know more, read this book written by Dr Louis J Ignarro, the man who won the Nobel prize. Here’s my copy!

For my clients who take Pro Argi 9 to normalise blood pressure, it has been utterly miraculous, (I have their results and testimonials to support this). Speaking for myself, it boosts my energy, and makes personal training all day, teaching at night, walking dogs, doing own my exercise and living life soooo much easier, it ensures that I have the energy to do it. It has also helped with mental clarity (lots of vitamin B12) and my skin has improved (thread veins reduced, better clarity and tone too). I rarely use mouth wash but after reading this research I shall ditch it all together and live with onion breath on occasion!
