This morning I’m still humming the songs from ‘Singing In The Rain’ after going to see the show at Sadlers Wells on Sunday. Oh my goodness what amazing talent across the board in that show – the singers, dancers, actors, musicians, and all the magic from the set and lighting team, it’s absolutely brilliant and I highly recommend you see it. Under my mask I was grinning throughout the entire performance – if only the performers could see those smiles rather than the ‘en masse’ image of Hannibal Lecter impersonators, but as these shows are opening on a ‘break even’ knife edge it’s important that they and everyone in the audience are as protected as possible. Wearing a mask is the least I can do to enjoy the show and keep them open.

I have also really been inspired and entertained by the fantastic Olympic performances and the incredible stories of determination and resilience.

These athletes show us all that when we want something and are prepared to do what it takes to achieve it, dreams become goals that can be achieved!

Another observation I made was seen commonly amongst the athletes who had learned how to be relaxed and live in the moment – for example the 13 year Skateboard skater Sky Brown who simply enjoyed being there, doing her favourite thing in the world, which is skating and being with her pals – her relaxed approach even after two falls is enviable. I observed the same for the BMX riders and of course Tom Daily who has learned to calm his nerves by knitting – brilliant!

Even multiple Olympic medalist in the velodrome Jason Kenny had thought his Olympic and competitive journey was over and so was quite relaxed in his final race then won gold after seeing a window of opportunity and rather than over thinking or even doubting, he grabbed it.

As a former competitor myself, my nerves got worse the more successful I was and I had too much to lose – I could really have done with that quiet confidence and relaxed approach.

How are you getting on, what have you been up to? Are you looking after yourself, having fun and living in the moment?

I can see that some of the membership holders have been using the online class videos to keep their fitness up and that really is thrilling to see.

I am following my August reboot plan of personal exercise, self care, professional development, reading, dog walks, a little gardening and making the most of the Summer to recharge my batteries before we hunker down for the Autumn and winter months and be ready for what ever they might bring.

Remember that I am still working in the DYBO studio during the day so if you want a consultation for fitness/wellness/nutrition, a workout, sports massage or some life coaching/NLP then get in touch to book an appointment (helen@dybo.co.uk).

Independance Day is back!

We are so excited to have this much-anticipated event happen at last, after having had to postpone it.

Our guest presenter Jo Ali is one of the UK’s most popular and loveable dance fitness presenters and we are thrilled that she is travelling so far to join us.

Spaces are filling quickly and I would love to have my DYBO divas be there with us, so please do book a.s.a.p. to guarantee your place and save £8!

Book here!

Must See!

I’m thrilled to share with you information about a good friends show. Kevan is one of the best choreographers in the UK and certainly my most favourite of those I worked for as a dancer. I think he is very brave putting together his own Dance company again and producing a show in London at this very challenging time. I hope you will book (I’m going on the 4th September if anyone wants to come with me).

Lavender Panna Cotta

Great for gut health and a lovely treat!

450ml coconut cream

90g (1/4 cup) honey (ideally manuka)

1/2 vanilla pod, split lengthways and seeds scraped

2 1/2 tbsp dried edible lavender, plus extra to serve

finely grated zest of 1/2 lime, plus extra to serve

1 1/2 tsp powdered gelatine ( I use the vegan kind)

  1. Combine coconut cream, honey, vanilla pod and seeds, lavender and lime zest in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to the boil, stirring to dissolve the honey. Remove from the heat, cover and set aside for 1 hour to allow the flavours to infuse.
  2. Pour 2 tablespoons of water into a small cup, sprinkle in the gelatine and set aside for 5 minutes.
  3. Place the coconut cream mixture over low heat and bring to just a simmer. Remove from the heat, pour in the gelatine mixture and whisk until the gelatine dissolves. Strain and cool to room temperature.
  4. Pour the cooled panna cotta into a serving dish. Place in the refrigerator to set for 4 hours, or until firm with a slight wobble. Sprinkle over some extra lavender and lime zest to decorate.

Yummy!

Have a wonderful week, keep in touch and you know where I am if you need me…

Love ya,

Helen x
