The Easter Bunnies are busy getting ready for the coming weekend – how about you?
I was thinking about all the conflicting messages out there bombarding our ‘young uns’, and us!
One minute the news is telling us that parents have become ‘fat blind’ which means that parents are simply not recognising that their (not so) little darlings are overweight (even obese) but seeing them as normal weight. Well in some areas they are normal weight but normal has become overweight! More and more children are presenting symptoms associated with obesity and old age, breathing difficulties, mobility and orthopedic issues and rotting teeth (from too much sugar) and type 2 diabetes – what a legacy to give your children. It’s time these folks realise that being a Parent (not their best friend) means saying no and sticking with it; it’s about creating healthy habits regarding food, snacks, activity and sleep, saying no to too much TV, computer games and mobile phones; it’s about being a role model by being fit and a healthy weight yourself, eating a balanced diet exercising and having self control/discipline etc., so that our youngsters see that we all practice what we preach. Children who have active and fit parents are far more likely to be the same throughout their lives -sadly the reverse is true too!

So here we are at another religious festival that has been turned into a retailers dream. I have heard of kids that have 5 or more chocolate eggs to get through!
I have done a little research for you this morning.
A Cadburys Chocolate Button egg contains 858.6 calories and 92 grams of sugar
A Dairy Milk Easter Egg contains 1817.9 calories and 194 grams sugar
A Creme Egg contains 180 calories and 28.5 grams sugar
(Check out weightloss resources .co.uk for other Easter eggs)
According to the institute of Medicinal Dietary Reference, the following table gives you approximate daily calorie requirement.

Now also consider that the average adult needs around 25grams(women) to 37.5grams (men) of sugar daily. Pre-school children need 16.7grams, 4-8 year olds 12.5grams and teenagers 21-33grams(source Livestrong.com). Of course the odd sugar overdose will do little harm but compare these figures with the sugars in the easter eggs and then think that children are eating multiple eggs! UK children are over-eating sugar day after day, this is why there is a huge problem and the future doesn’t look good for the nation’s kids – indeed we are likely to outlive them!
My tip for an Easter treat is to get some high cocoa content chocolate and melt it in a bain-marie, chop very small fruit potions (berries and banana for example) and nuts, if they can be tolerated, and gather round the table for a ‘chochie’ fondue, it’s fun, sociable and you will eat less sugar (yes I know fruit contains fruit sugar but I guarantee you will eat less this way and fruit has fabulous fibre and nutrients)

Due to public demand I am teaching a two week Course for ladies only !
Inspired by the great classic burlesque performers, current performers in shows, pop music and movies, this class will teach you how to show off your curves and celebrate all that is feminine. Appreciate how to enjoy womanly shapes rather than pummel them into hard muscular statues. The tempo is at times faster than classic burlesque to improve cardiovascular fitness yet also slows to challenge muscle control, balance and stability. Most importantly, you will have lots of fun and giggles experiencing a new way of moving and something different! Suitable for all levels and experience
