Firstly some house keeping and a request that you respond a.s.a.p please.
I have been granted one extra week to secure our Christmas Party deposits – currently there are fewer of you than the previous years, which is surprising, based upon our conversations. So check out the details of our Christmas Party below and let me know if you are coming (I require your £10 deposit this week).
Secondly, if you wish to come to the ‘Release and Restore’ guest class instructed by Monica Linford on the 24 October (details below) please let me know a.s.a.p before I invite non DYBO participants – class size is limited to 20 people.
Finally, last week I asked if a Halloween themed class on Thursday 31 October (7.30pm in place of Dancespiration) was something you want to do, again only a few have responded please let me know either way, particularly if you are a dance class participant.
Your prompt communication regarding these matters is requested so I can crack on with related tasks and ensure that I serve you well.
New Generation
Yesterday I took a drive to Fulham to participate in a monthly class instructed by Anthony Johns who is the Civil Partner and assistant/choreographer of Dougie Squires OBE, the choreographer of many shows on TV and Theatre from the late 1960’s onwards (known as the New Generation and Second Generation).
Indeed, Anthony was a guest choreographer on a couple of TV shows I danced in back in the late 80’s and I really enjoyed his work.
Dougie, now in his late 80’s, sat at the front surveying the class and at times prompting Anthony with the routine. I loved the choreography, set to a track from the new biopic of Judy Garland. The energy from all the ‘generation dancers’ (of which I was one of the youngest, even if I don’t use my show biz age!!) was fantastic and these boys (well I use the term loosely, as Trevor is 70) and girls are fabulous dancers still. They had great discipline and worked hard with barely water breaks for two hours, possessing fabulous flexibility, poise and style! They are the real evidence (if I needed any) that ‘we don’t stop dancing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop dancing!’.
So no matter what others do or say I shall continue with my ‘show biz age attitude’ (35 + vat and P&P), great nutrition, the best supplements, daily exercise and dancing and will do so for as long as I love it!
Busy Girl I also had a Fit Pro article to write, new choreography to create for our classes this week and some information material to prepare for a School Careers Day display. I was certainly busy but fully appreciate that I’m blessed to have the energy, health and inspiration to do it all.
Over to you
Tell me what you want to know regarding health, fitness and nutrition matters, I want to help! Also what information do you have that you think our DYBO family would benefit from hearing, please do share!
DYBO Christmas Party!
I’m so looking forward to sharing a festive fun filled evening with you!
Last year’s party was so brilliant so we are returning to the Oak Park Golf Club (Crondall near Farnham) for another night of fabulous, festive, fun (and it’s amazing value at just £32). They also accommodate special dietary needs.
I’ve reserved 44 spaces at the Winter Wonderland Party on the 20 December and need to let them know numbers.

Halloween Class
I have been asked to do a Halloween Special class on the 31 October (we haven’t done one for a few years).
I’m very happy to do this for you all if you are up for it (theme, costumes, face paint etc.) If you are in the mood for some grown up Halloween fun then let me know, If insufficient interest I will leave it.
Pumpkin Hummus
I found this recipe on the BBC Good Food page.

Doesn’t it look fab and very nutritious too!
Ingredients
- 1 small pumpkin (about 500g)
- olive oil (for roasting)
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled
- ½ juiced lemon
- 2 tbsp tahini paste
- 400g can chickpeas, drained
- 1 red pepper, deseeded, and sliced
- 1 yellow pepper, deseeded, and sliced
plus mini breadsticks and pitta chips, or crudités.
Method
- Cut the top off the pumpkin, about two-thirds of the way up. Remove the pumpkin seeds, then scoop the flesh out of the bottom and the lid.
- Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Cut the pumpkin flesh into pieces and put in a roasting tin with the garlic and a good glug of oil. Season, then bake for 45 mins until very tender. Leave to cool.
- Tip the pumpkin into afood processor with any juices from the roasting tin and the garlic. Add the lemon juice, tahini paste and chickpeas. Season with salt and blend to a paste – add a little more oil if it’s too thick. Scoop the hummus back into the pumpkin and serve with the peppers, breadsticks and pitta chips.
Have a fab week and I’m looking forward to hearing from and seeing you!
Helen x
