We are already into the second week of January and apart from fewer pounds in the bank and a few more around the waist, Christmas seems a distant memory!
How’s your New Year going? Did you set plans and resolutions in motion? If so, how’s that going? Did you know that only 8% of resolutions are maintained and that most have been given up on within the first week!
I think some folks rush in to making a resolution without thinking the whole thing through.
They don’t ask themselves…
“What do I really want?”
“What will that do for me?”
“How will I think, feel, look like etc. whilst I’m working towards my goals and when I achieve them?”
“Am I ok with that?”
“What will it take for me to achieve my goals?”
“Am I ok with the process, is it the best process for me?”
“Can I find a strategy that works better for me?”
“Is it the best time for me to make these changes?”
“Do I have all the resources I need and do I need support? From whom and are they prepared to support me in a positive manner?”
I’m not saying that we don’t need some ‘will power’ but ‘will power’ alone makes the whole thing so much harder and more likely to fail.
I’m in the business of supporting clients with achieving their goals; each system and process is individualised. Your own strategy is most likely to work in the short and long term (as long as it is well defined and practical/relevant for you), so borrowing a celebrity’s diet regime or exercise routine might work in the short term but not in the long term; of course they might inspire you and you can also model some of their ideas and strategies to assist your motivation.
Many folks try to change too much in one go and/or make unrealistic promises to themselves like “I’m going to get up at 5am and go for a run!!! When they struggle to get up by 8am ”. Or “I’m going to fast every weekend”, when it’s the weekends when they usually blow their healthy diet!
Big changes can be achieved by taking one small step at a time; in fact you are more likely to succeed when you change just one thing at a time. Throughout January I’m going to share one tip a day to assist you move forward towards achieving a sustained positive change. Check out my twitter feed for each tip starting later today @HelenCW99.
At classes and in our PT gym I have a bin in which you can throw away your negative thoughts, emotions, habits – basically junk from last year. All you have to do is write them down, and for extra impact write down the reason for disposing of them, and I will burn them all at the end of the month.
I also have a wishing tree where you can pin your wishes, dreams and goals for 2016 (and beyond). State them positively (what it is you want, rather than don’t want). Give them extra power by listing all the reasons why you want to achieve this goal, seal it in an envelope if you want to keep it secret, or leave it open if you want my support. Let me know if you would like a “goal buddy”. I can partner you up with someone who has a similar goal so that you can support each other. This offer ends at the end of January, and then we will focus on maintaining our goals through out the year.

Bring a buddy for free. You might have a pal who is dragging their heels about coming to class no matter how much you enthuse! Tell them that they can come with you FOC to one class throughout January to give it a try. Make sure that their likes, desire and abilities match the type of class they attend to ensure that they have a fab time and love it just a much as you do. Remember that they must come with you to get their free class.
Clutter Clearing
We often have a bit of a clear out in January, taking down the decorations, having a good dust and tidy, getting rid of the Christmas trees, wrapping paper and cards plus making space for the lovely (and not so lovely) Christmas gifts.
You might have some booze left over and don’t have anywhere/how to organise it to keep it safe and tidy. Well our lovely Jo Hobbs has the answer. She and Simon (her Hubby) are the inventors of the ‘Bottle Blocks’ .Take a look at the website and I’m sure you’ll be impressed; they have the answer to your bottle storage problems!
Homework – Making a fab start!
Make a list of all your goals, wishes, desires etc. Put them in priority order, then ask yourself if you could have only one, would it still be number one! Does not having ‘number one’ affect your ability to have the other wishes? If yes, do you need to re-order your list of important priorities?
Once you have worked down your list (double-checking that if you could only have one of them, would you still be happy with the list).
Create a strategy, a list of things that you need in place to have that one top priority, put them in the order in which they are to be done to achieve your goal.
If you need help with any aspect of managing your goals in life and achieving them (personal, professional, relationship, fitness and health) then of course you can book an appointment to see me. I am qualified as a Master Practioner of NLP, Advanced Lifecoach and Ericksonian Hypnotherapist in addition to all my fitness qualifications.
Have a fantastic week – I look forward to working alongside you as we achieve a greater level of fabulousness!
Love ya,
Helen x
