I adore my Sunday Morning walks/runs with the dogs. Yes I love the exercise, the fresh air, being out in nature, laughing at the funny things that my dogs do and watching them simply be dogs and have fun. One of the biggest gifts I enjoy is the stimulation I experience for creative thinking. My best ideas come to me when I’m walking the dogs; whilst my conscious mind is busy, my unconscious pushes forward information, problem solving and creativity. This Sunday was no exception… read more, but first a message to tonight’s Cardio Dancers to please wear black, pink or purple tonight!
Last Tuesday I attended a one-day conference entitled “Exercise, the 4th Cancer Treatment”. It was great to be surrounded by medical professionals dedicated to helping people’s health. The researchers presented their findings regarding the impact of exercise for preventing cancer, during treatment, before surgery, post surgery and as a palliative therapy. Next week I will summarise the findings presented and share them with you.
What our pets can teach us…
Here’s is a picture of Mini yesterday – she chose her stick for the walk.
As you can see it’s many times bigger than her, but that’s what she wanted and being a tenacious little redhead, she set about moving this stick, and move it she did! With effort, focus and determination she achieved what she wanted – it was a tough slog but she did it, we can all apply ourselves to our goals and get what we want. We might not have the best strategy but we can get there!
I then thought had she asked, she could have had assistance to achieve her goal more easily, and still get the outcome she wanted. I could have helped her by breaking the stick into smaller parts that would be easier for her to move; she could probably have shifted that stick bit by bit and get the whole amount to where she wanted it to be in a shorter time – I have the tools and she does the work. Sometimes we get so focused on what we want and want to start immediately (or we are a bit stubborn and think we should do it by ourselves), we forget that we might require/benefit from help with strategies, tools, support etc. We might become overwhelmed and disillusioned and give up or we might battle on and take longer to get the job done. It might also take more out of us than necessary. Getting the best advice and support can certainly help us in every part of our life, personal, professional, business, health and fitness. Whilst we have to take action to create change we often benefit from getting advice, help and support. Equally if I cut the stick in to too many parts and then there were too many bits to move, Mini might spend more time than she wants to get the job done and give up! I have had clients who wanted to make such small changes to their diet, lifestyle, activity, sleep work etc. etc. etc. that they would take an age to get there; demotivation and drop-out is a clear problem with this strategy. Of course, if the tough battle is part of the appeal then crack on, knock yourself – out enjoy!!
‘Boogie Fit’ and ‘The Middle Bit’ (Monday nights) are going down a storm and I’m loving sharing my love of dance inspired fitness with beginners in Boogie Fit, and in The Middle Bit providing class members with exercises that apply the theories of core training to functional movement – essential for every one.
Remember Ski Fit on Fridays is fabulous for Skiing preparation and for improved fitness and muscle tone in bum, thighs and core for everyone! We have some spaces left so book a.s.a.p.
If you want to change your class night, or fancy a change to your training schedule then contact/email me and I can take you through some options to help you achieve your objectives.
Have a fantastic week.
Love ya,
Helen
