This is the last missive of January 2017 and what a different world we wake up to from the one we thought we knew at the start of the year!

It would be easy to get bogged down and depressed by these unfamiliar world events. Burying our head in the sand will not change things, indeed we need the militant and passionate amongst us to stand up and be counted and we should be amongst them. We also must remember to balance our energies and that we have a responsibility to care for ourselves too, to ensure we ‘choose life’ (homage to George Michael and Trainspotting movies, see what I did there, ha ha) to decompress from pressure, bad news and stress, via relaxation meditation, exercise and laughter, to eat well with nutrient dense and whole foods, to drink water, to ditch stimulants and depressants such as caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes, to breath deeply (go outside into the fresh air and breath for 20 mins everyday). Choose to nurture fertile and nourishing relationships and get rid of the toxic and dead ones. To walk away from negative comments and conversations – especially ones where there is no solution (these include the ones that continue in our head – refocus and move on)

Barrack Obama, despite being one of the most powerful and responsible men in the world managed to do all these things whilst being President. I remember this when I feel I can’t be bothered or I don’t think I have time! I’ve seen footage of him jogging round the White House to get some exercise, hugging and playing with children and his wife. Despite being the most powerful man in the world he remembered the most important thing – his health and his close relationships

Remember that there is great good amongst us and that despite what we regard as genuine woes, we are truly lucky here in the UK when compared to those souls in other parts of the world – their suffering puts into perspective our blessings. Do what you can to help of course but before you feel overwhelmed,  reboot and recharge. We can’t create a masterpiece without paint in our pot.

So today how will you choose to create your day?

Read on for class news, final call for this coming Sunday’s Independance Day with Roy Gayle (star of stage and screen) and myself, plus healthy snacks that boost energy, taste great and will help with the munchies.
