Good Morning!

So are you a sport watcher or doer. I must confess, being a ‘fidget’, I would rather do than watch. I do know of folks who literally sit on their butt for two weeks watching Wimbledon, and love it. Sitting is horrible for your back, circulation, our fascia hates it, sitting also increases inflammation, lethargy and of course lowers metabolism (we burn almost 1 extra calorie per minute when we stand rather than sit). Of course, when standing we need to shift our weight from one foot to the other to assist venous return (blood pooling can result in light headedness/fainting, swollen ankles/feet and varicose veins.). How about watching sport whilst standing or doing some exercises like squats, lunges, wall push ups, some dynaband work such as latt pull, thumb a lift, reverse fly, chest press etc, so you can make the most of that TV time and keep your eye on the action!

A Prickly Subject

The intense heat has left us for a while but with holiday season around the corner, it’s worth paying attention to some advice DYBO diva Charlotte Cropp shares with regarding dealing with Prickly Heat, a condition she used to be cursed by, but now she is now free of this ‘prickly’ problem.

Read on for Class news, sport news, solving Prickly Heat and a refreshing healthy juice recipe…

Summer Class Schedule

Sarah and I are putting together the summer schedule (based on your requests) over the next few days and will be letting you know which classes are running and what you have individually requested. If you have changed your mind please let us know asap as in the past folks have pulled out of classes at this point leaving me having booked the venue and advertised the sessions but with insufficient numbers. Equally, if you wish to add to your selections let us know as this might mean classes running that didn’t formerly have sufficient bookings.

Beach Body Workout

After a fab (and steamy) class on Friday I have been receiving some messages and feedback from class members, mainly to tell me how effective it was but also to tell me about your post training achey bits! I love that you help me create the classes that you want and need, so please keep it coming – even if it’s just to say you like things as they are, as it helps me to have a complete, balanced view when everyone has their say!

EXCEL here I come

I shall head off to the big smoke in the wee hours of Thursday morning to deliver both a demo and masterclass/workshop at the 25th Fit Pro convention, I’m proud to have been at 24 of them (obviously I started attending at the age of 10!!!) I can remember my presentation at the event (then held in Coventry) and still love the music and routines I did from that day to this, fab music and choreography is timeless! Sarah and Daisy are ‘looking after the shop’ for the day and they have prepared wonderful classes for you to enjoy.

 Ante Postnatal Teacher Training

I have a busy week, as on Sunday I shall be delivering my ante post natal teachers training for Pilates teachers. If you are interested in attending, contact me for details.

Refreshing Juice Cooler!

Watermelon is packed with anti oxidants (important for fighting cancer cells), vitamins, minerals and fibre. It has fantastic healing benefits for our skin, lungs and digestion. It is great for dealing with muscle soreness and general inflammation.

Cucumber offers the same health benefits and if you place a slice in your mouth and suck on it for a while it can help freshen breath!

Both are full of water and so can help hydrate us too, so enjoy this wonderful recipe to help cool and hydrate you on those hot days!

Scoop out the contents of a whole Watermelon peel a whole Cucumber (or leave rind if you like the extra fiber) blitz together dilute with chilled water to taste and poor over ice, and add a slice of lime. “Frrrresshhh”

Charlotte’s tips for Preventing Prickly heat

Good day!!!

Here are my tips to help prevent prickly heat

Take antihistamines for at least 2 weeks before going away and continue to take them whilst on holiday.

Take calcium tablets (normally with vitamin d too)

Exfoliate skin regularly.

Also, look to changing the sun tan lotion you use as lots of them have an active ingredient in them that causes prickly heat. The best one I have found is Ambre Solaire Clear and Protect Spray. Clear sprays are better as they don’t clog your pores. If you do still get prickly heat, keep skin clear of poor clogging products (wash gently with a flannel to clear pores of sweat and dead skin cells) and regularly take in the sea/pool to keep cool. Also, wear natural fabrics like cotton to keep skin covered and cool. There is a brilliant spray, Magicool Prickly Heat, which is safe for pregnant women as well as babies. As always, it helps to stay well hydrated too!!! Avoid Piz Buin lotions as I have discovered that this WILL irritate most skins as they have changed the ingredients! Enjoy the Sun, Charlotte Xxx

Thanks Charlotte.

PS. If symptoms persist, you might have sensitivity to the combination of the sun with your regular skin care products. You might have an allergy to the sun itself! (Bummer).

Some medications react badly with Sun exposure so check with pharmacist

Pregnant ladies should avoid direct sun exposure as the changed hormones of pregnancy with often cause chloasma, an increased amount of melanin in patches on the skin – often the face but not exclusively. This returns every time skin is exposed to the suns rays even after pregnancy and forever.

Remember to wash all perfumed products off the skin before sun exposure as this can both irritate and stain the skin.

Enjoy the summer sporting fixtures, be inspired and keep moving, keep cool, refreshed and enjoy the summer in comfort and great health!

Love ya,

Helen
