Anyone listening? I’m often asked about things at class that I include in my weekly catch up and when I say “that information is in the email I sent you” and (for the past few weeks) I often get, “well I didn’t read that far”, or “I didn’t open it”.

I know time is precious (mine is too). I feel that speaking to you this way is the most time efficient way for all of us and it takes just a couple of minutes to read (less some times). Please take a minute or two to read my messages as whilst it might not all be relevant to you, much of it is!!!

Today Sarah and I will be pulling together your class requests and formulating the Summer Class Schedule. We aim to have it to you by Wednesday. If you want to throw your hat in to the ring regarding your class requests please do as some classes are literally one request away from either running or not.

On Sunday Karen (Smith) and I went to my old stomping ground of the 80’s (and a few times since)   – Pineapple Dance Studios (it turns out Karen was a regular Thursday night attendee!). They held a free Open Day and young dancers (plus me!!) were queued around the block… it wasn’t raining and was quite good fun, so we embraced the moment chatting to other dancers in the queue. It reminded me of the big audition days where queues for dance jobs, agency positions etc. went around the block. We had a blast and as Louis Spence says “still got it, never lost it”!

I spoke with an older lady who I think was surprised to see a more mature dancer (35 plus vat & well, you know the rest) attending these classes. She said she loved to dance but was too shy! Shy of what I thought – what others think? Who cares? I mean really, who cares? As long as you don’t get in each others way then in my experience (which is extensive!), most folks are only interested in their own dance or fitness experience, and if they are not then they are not focused sufficiently or working hard enough, so more fool them!

I dance for many many reasons, physical health and fitness, mobility, posture, strength… dancing keeps me sane and happy and, mostly, because I love it. Why on earth would I deny myself all of that because of someone else’s (prejudiced or ill informed) opinion of my age, size, ability?

So whatever your “thing” is, if it makes you happy and healthy then keep doing it!

‘We do not stop dancing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop dancing’

This week we have a full class timetable incuding ‘Barrre Fit’ on Wednesday 7.30pm and ‘The Perfect Summer Solution’ on Friday 6.30pm.

I must have been having a massage with Helen, on a monthly basis for over 10 years now.  I really value this time.  Helen will advise me if there is a small problem with my back or legs, and give me the right exercises to do , to correct the problem.  Helen has helped me before and after 2 uni-compartmental knee replacement operations.  I am 73 years old and thankfully feel fit.  I swim twice a week, enjoy pilates and a hydrofit class.  Helen  has been a major help in keeping me flexible, fit and healthy, and I recommend her most highly.
